Maria Castellano-Usery

November Feature Artist

Her work has been described as joyful, fun, mystical and colorful. She gives herself up to the process and just lets things flow; subject matter is whatever grabs her at the moment. “There is plenty of darkness in the world already; I try to infuse my work with light, love and positive energy.”

Maria was born and raised on Long Island, New York and earned a BA in Fine Arts in 1994 from Hofstra University. Since selling her first piece in 1996, she has been consistently involved in showing her work in both group and solo settings. In July 2007, she decided to intensify her commitment to her art, and has since painted every day. When traveling doesn’t allow her to be in front of her easel, she always brings along a sketch book.

In December 2015, Maria started Brushstrokes With Impact, a campaign where she merges art, community and raising money for causes she feels strongly about. Over the course of twenty-three “Paint-a-Thon” events (which have taken place in Maine, New Hampshire and New York), she has been able to donate roughly $3,600 to national and local charities.
